The Edinburgh & District Group of Advanced Motorists (affiliated group of IAM RoadSmart) plays a vital role in transforming standard licence holders into elite road users. By focusing on the IPSGA framework—Information, Position, Speed, Gear, and Acceleration—the group elevates driving from a routine chore to a precise skill.
Safe driving is the cornerstone of our mission. In a city like Edinburgh, with its complex mix of tram lines, cobblestones, and heavy pedestrian traffic, advanced techniques are lifesaving.
Members learn to prioritise observation and anticipation, identifying hazards long before they require emergency action. This proactive approach drastically reduces collision risks, lowers fuel consumption, and fosters a culture of responsibility that makes Scotland’s capital and surrounding area safer for everyone.
